Position Summary

The Senior Manager, In House Group Sales position is responsible for managing the team that drives opportunities into hotels. They are also responsible for developing high profile, key business out of their market and sell Washington, DC and metropolitan area as a convention destination with specific reference to groups that utilize 100-599 rooms on peak.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)

  1. Generate bookings for meetings and conventions according to the priorities outlined in the marketing plan or more specifically meet certain market segment factors.
  2. Prospect new business for the city from key markets previously not targeted
  3. Inform team by keeping them abreast of trends, marketplace analysis and new developments in our industry
  4. Coordinate and participate in local promotional events and local industry trade shows with a view towards developing Washington, DC business interests.
  5. Produce sales leads for destination hotel partners.
  6. Follows up on lead sources by inquiry, through trade shows and trade publications.
  7. Converts leads into confirmed business; prepares proposals including quoted costs at the Washington Convention Center as well as executing and overseeing client site inspections.
  8. Assist the direct sales effort by attending sales missions, meetings, trade shows and other industry-related functions.
  9. Inform team by keeping them abreast of trends, marketplace analysis and new developments in our industry.
  10. Maintain good product knowledge of the destination including the area (attractions, recreation, climate, etc.), convention center, hotels and services.
  11. Maintains awareness of industry trends and competing cities (ie. through trade journals, industry participation and travel)
  12. Functions as the leader of the in house group sales effort for member properties focusing on in house groups and drive room night generation
  1. Works with leadership team to create and implement a group sales/marketing plan addressing room nights, customers and market.
  2. Maintain function and responsibility of the In House Sales Advisory Group
  3. Assists with selling, implementation and follow-through of group sales promotions
  4. Manages the in house team's reactive and proactive group sales efforts.
  5. Maintains successful performance by increasing room nights, controlling expenses and providing a return on investment for programs and events.
  6. Maintains ultimate accountability for verifying that the team maximizes group room night opportunities by cross-selling
  7. Recommends annual goals for In House Managers
  8. Assist the Director of a Sales and Vice President of Sales and Service with various projects affecting the team to include but not limited to organizing reports, facilitating invitation lists for various events, identifying target lists and other responsibilities as needed
  9. Manage client relationships to ensure adequate account servicing.
  10. Execute all other duties as assigned by the Director of Sales and Vice-President of Convention Sales & Services.

Experience, Competencies & Education

  1. Minimum four to five (5) years sales management experience in related field, preferably convention bureau, facility or hotel sales and convention services
  2. Bachelor's Degree (B.S./B.A.) from four-year college or university in management, sales, marketing or related field.
  3. Ability to read, analyze, articulate and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  6. Willingness to work evenings and weekends; willingness to travel
  7. Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for city and facilities
  8. Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and destination management software systems required.
  9. The position requires interaction with clients, members and partners, the candidate must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
